Does this sound iffy?

I've got a buggy for sale. Quite high value.

Buyer has emailed, asking if I'll ship it to Sweden.

They have zero feedback and when I clicked their ebay I'd, it says they are in the us. Confused

They've emailed twice asking about shipping and sound very keen to buy.

If it's all done through paypal, would I be totally covered if anything goes wrong?

I would avoid it. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth tbh.

millymae · 21/01/2015 19:42

My advice would be 'don't go there'. Stick to buyers in the UK, problems with them are bad enought to deal with .........

Viviennemary · 21/01/2015 19:44

I wouldn't even consider it. I agree that it would be more trouble than it's worth.

I think I would go with cash on collection then you know the buyer has seen and is happy with the item. I would just say sorry to the message about shipping - too costly too risky.

Thanks for the replies.

Can I ask why it might be more trouble than if a uk buyer were to buy it?

The only risk that I can foresee is the cost of return postage if they decide they don't want it. However, I am happy to be corrected Smile

I'll wait a bit longer to have more of a think about it.

Have you enquired yet how much this would cost. I wouldn't dream of selling a pushchair on Ebay. Local paper or shop window far better and straightforward.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 21/01/2015 22:48

Yes, it's not as much as I'd imagined.

I buy and sell a lot of pushchairs on eBay so that doesn't worry me. I was just concerned that I might be missing an obvious reason not to proceed with a high value item if the buyer is in another country.

Possibly coincidently but worth noting, I have just sold some shoes, I had a message asking do I ship to Sweden, I said if you win & pay for postage. Then I got email stating they had won. It's been two days no payment. The profile states member since 2008 but in USA?

Did the person contacting you have a profile starting with P?

I have just emailed asking for payment & obviously have not shipped the shoes...but not sure how long to give them or if they are legit, especially once I had spotted this post?

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 22/01/2015 13:28

That is a coincidence. No, their user name doesn't begin with p. I hope yours pays up soon Smile

The risk is this - If the buyer found a problem and opened a case then you may have to refund and refund return postage which on a large heavy item could be expensive especially if you need extra insurance due to how much it is worth. Unless it is brand new then there is the risk that something about the buggy won't be exactly as they wanted (even if you think it is fine..this happens all the time). Cash on collection means your buyer has seen it and inspected it and is happy to take it plus cash means you have less fees to pay paypal. I am happy to send items overseas but I would not be inclined to do this with a buggy.

Next chapter - give your buyer more time to pay for the shoes - I don't even contact before 3 days have gone by - some people would see it as hassling them and you may get worse comms stars. Just wait for payment then send tracked to the address on the order details (make sure you charge for tracked service) and put in the tracking number into your transaction. I have never had a problem posting to any Nordic country.

nauticant · 22/01/2015 21:33

I'd be blocking that buyer in Sweden (or the US or perhaps even somewhere else) without the slightest hesitation HiccupHaddockHorrendous.

can you track and prove it's been delivered to ebay's satisfaction if outside UK?
