Bit of advice if you will. Sold a phone on ebay, no longer in contract and turns out phone company didn't process unlock so agreed with buyer I'd request again. Major delays with phone company and a big apology as they didn't contact me, so now buyer wants refund even though I've now offered unlock instructions and it's been processed. she has opened an eBay resolution case requesting refund.
I can cope with this, but what is the best way to avoid paying (or rather get back) the eBay and paypal fees for this non-transaction which weren't exactly small.

well you need it back first, you need to verify it is your phone - security marks or IMEI number? Then you refund in full, paypal fees are automatic when you refund and eBay fees - you can send the buyer a request to get those back.

Make sure you send a cancellation request prior to refunding (that will void the sale and give you your fee's back),then refund straight away to your buyer after checking it is the phone you sent out.

but a buyer may not accept a cancellation request until they have been refunded - the request will tell them to accept only after they have their money back.

They may then not bother to send the phone back,if the cancellation etc is done through e-bay all should be OK,but I see what you are saying.

They won't get a refund if they don't return it. I don't know what you mean?

PumpingRSI · 17/01/2015 06:46

unfortunately the buyer got in there first with a refund request so looks like I'll lose some fees.

This buyer is driving me bonkers. she will only return by post (lives 10 mins down the road) but I want to collect as I've already lost enough money that I don't want to pay for recorded post. do I have any right to being able to pick up?

no - the buyer needs to return tracked to ensure they get their refund. You didn't let them collect and pay paypal did you?

standard signed for prob won't be sufficient - how much was it?

PumpingRSI · 17/01/2015 15:14

they've raised a request to return and the only option I have is to send a return label, and would need recorded. yes they collected and paid by PayPal. this has been so much effort I'm not sure I'll bother again!

never ever let a buyer collect and pay paypal - and the return label - standard signed for isn't enough. How much was the phone

You are lucky they aren't claiming not received.
