Not happy with item - what to say to seller?

Dd was after a pair of football boots and bid on a pair before I had a chance to check the listing. They were described as having been worn only twice and in good condition. The postage was a bit steep at 4.50 but the bid had been placed, and we won.

I've received the boots today and there is no way the boots have only been worn twice - the studs are totally worn down (see photo). Also the postage only cost 2.80. I am not happy with them and wish to return, yet I have to pay return postage. Is there any way of claiming this back from the seller, as the boots were not as described?

I am an eBay novice so any advice gratefully received!

Are the studs worn down? They look OK to me, but it's hard to tell from the photos.

Your first step should be to email them and explain, then you can open a dispute if they don't want to refund.

Sorry meant to add . Can I ask for a refund if my postage? Info says seller will accept returns but buyer pays postage.

Something to note about postage costs when you buy from ebay - ebay take 10% and PayPal take a percentage too.

When I sell on ebay I set the postage costs to ensure that I have enough money after the charges to cover the cost of postage and packing materials (even if I use mostly recycled packaging there is still the cost of far too much tape and paper). For a parcel that costs £2.80 to post I charge between £3.30 and £3.50 - anything less and I'm making a loss on p&p costs!

£4.50 is taking the micky unless new packing materials were used though!

you need to open a case and ask for ebay to supply a return label. And they are not allowed to overcharge on p&p (private sellers cannot charge for fees, petrol or anything else they fancy) - and you will get a full refund, not just the item cost btw, regardless of what the seller claims. And do please leave appropriate feedback and stars too.

Hi margotlovedtom I've come into this late as I have been busy this week (not with e-bay) the only reason you have to pay return postage is if you state you have had a change of mind regarding the item not if it is SNAD,then you should be reimbursed by seller or free label from e-bay if they feel that way inclined but it does depend on the CS person you speak to.
