help - sold item to overseas buyer and ebay wants to penalise me for increasing the postage!

Hi, grateful for any advice. I sold an item and immediately after the sale closed I had a message from the buyer saying could I let her know the cost to post to an overseas country. She hadn't asked beforehand if I'd send the item abroad (so I was a bit miffed). Anyhow I found out the cost of the postage and let her know and she said she was happy to pay it. I sent the invoice through ebay showing the total which obviously showed a higher postage than my advert. (I hadn't thought about the implications of doing that, just sent it innocently).

When I looked at the invoice, ebay had doubled the charge by adding a 'seller's charge'. No explanation provided but does anyone think it's because I increased the postage? And what can I do about it?

Thanks for any thoughts and hope not too rambling!

You always pay a percentage of the sale to ebay. Think it's 10% of the sold price.

I think that the rule is now the selling fee is charged on the whole amount including postage. This was to stop people selling items for a low price and making up the money on postage. Just put post to UK only on all your items. And then this won't happen again.
