Buy it now item sold, but no payment received. How does that happen?

A Buy It Now item I had for sale was bought this morning, but I have received no payment for it. I don't understand how that has happened. In my experience of buying (and selling) buy it now items, you click to pay for the item and the money is taken straightaway. So how has this buyer managed to 'buy' my item without automatically paying for it?

no it isn't unless you choose immediate payment required

Buyer needs to pay as normal and if they don't you can open a non payment case in 48 hours.

Is that so? I didn't know that! And I have been selling exclusively under the Buy It Now process for months. I previously listed everything in auctions but I got fed up with waiting for people to pay (call me impatient!) and have been rejoicing that under Buy It Now the payment is instantaneous. I shall have to check the details more closely next time I list.

As for payment, I have checked the buyer's feedback and he comes across as very reliable. I am sure he will pay as soon as I get back from the post office. I just didn't understand why payment was not instantaneous.

Send him a polite reminder email. Maybe your buyer has issues with his paypal account. For example I had problems when my credit card expired.

most buy it now buyers do pay straight away - some within a few hours. I wouldn't start emailing chasing them today. But in future you can tick a box when listing which requests immediate payment with a BIN if you want.

Two ways I've come across of how this can happen are:

  1. the buyer is abroad and payment is waiting on the seller sending an invoice; and
  2. the buyer pays with an e-cheque and this takes nearly a week to clear.

No doubt there are others.

I sell 99% by BIN and I've learn to check carefully how the transaction looks and whether ebay have attached any interesting notes to it.

Thanks all.

I've just listed another couple of items with BIN and I couldn't see anywhere for me to select immediate payment. Confused I was only using the standard selling form though. Do I have to use the advanced selling form?

Just bumping this thread because I have got another buyer not paying immediately with a BIN item and I really want to know how to set my listings so that payment is required immediately. Chrissy41 says I can opt for this when I list but I cannot see where this option is. Can anyone help at all please?

I'm fairly certain you can only use the setting for immediate payment before completion of the sale on a BIN item if you are a business seller on eBay.

I regularly help my friend list things on her business selling page (she has her own crafting business) and when listing a BIN item there is always an option to 'require immediate payment'.

I have been using eBay for 9 years and I had never seen this option when listing on my personal account, until i sold an expensive item, according to eBay personal accounts can only use the immediate payment required option if the items BIN price is over £350.

It does help, thank you. I was driving myself mad trying to find the place where I could stipulate immediate payment! I still wish I could have that option, but at least I now know it is not possible. Thanks.

You tick a box to say buy it now with immediate payment required. It is available to premier paypal account holders. Use the advanced sell page.

Ah, reading that link, it seems the problem is I am not specifying a postage price (because I am offering free postage). How odd.

no - you don't have the right type of paypal a/c probably.

Alabaster is correct, you either need to be a business seller or have a premium PayPal account to be entitled to use the immediate payment option.

Ive just had this happen to me.. i sent a best offee on a skirt the seller accepted then a hour later i heard a ring nouse so thought they had paid but theyhadnt theyd bought a dress that was just buy it now but when looked no payment made then they boughy a second item without the payment before lastly sending a offer on a item id let the setting be open to offers but find this worrying and baffling they have been able to do it on the 2 items that require instant payment. I hope i get paid. Seems weird to me. And im not a lucky persom
