is it normal for a buyer to request an item to be sent to an alternative address

I read that this can cancel out seller protection but what does this actually mean ???

You are covered by paypal protection so long as you send to the address on the paypal account.

it means you only send to the address given by paypal - and if you don't you won't be covered if it doesn't arrive. If the buyer hasn't requested new address correctly refund them, and ask them to repay and add the delivery address to paypal as a gift address - then you will be covered.

What about when they ask for a package to be left with a specified neighbour if they're not in? I'm sending an expensive insured item off today where such a request has been made but I think I'll ignore it.
