private bidder?

i saw something i like with a low bid but already higher bid so it pushes price up and it says private bidder.

Seller is a trader so my gut feeling is they have put a high bid on themselves using another account as the auction doesn't end for ages.

any thoughts?

all ebay auctions are now set to show bidders as "private" unless the seller deselects the option.

you're being paranoid im afraid. Lots of people just enter their max offer at the start of an auction, rather than messing about going back and increasing it.

I usually see names on most auctions tbh not this terminology but thanksSmile

How do you become a private bidder? Showing the initials seems to be the most common.

Gingefringe · 14/10/2014 16:35

it's the seller that has the option of displaying bidders in this way from what I can gather.
Would agree with Lottie that someone has probably just put in their maximum bid at the start of the auction.

bidders have been private for ages. If you suspect shill bidding report the auction.

alemci · 14/10/2014 18:51

hmm

I still think someone puts a high bid on who is connected with the seller to ensure they get a decent price for the item but I am a suspicious person :)

how many other items from the same seller have they bid on?

alemci · 14/10/2014 19:03

Don't know - private bidder so it is anonymousSmile
