seller using my photo

I recently sold a new childs coat. Someone is now using my photo to sell a similar but not new coat and the rest of their photos are quite poor. They have the coat on at the same price I sold the new one for. I do not think it is fair on buyers to have a photo of a new item to basically pretend theirs looks new. I have sent a message saying could they remove my photo from their listing but not heard back and it is still there. Should I tell ebay?

I think there is an option to report "photo theft" so I would.

someone did that with a baby gate i was selling! didn't bother telling ebay but should have i suppose!

If I was buying a childs coat for £45 I would like to know what I am buying not look at a photo of a completely different item. My photo is of a new coat which it was and their item is used. I wouldn't be that bothered if they were selling a new one too.

owl - do you know where that option can be found or do I just contact ebay generally?

yes you can report it - it's against the rules and eBay will remove the listing. Click on the listing, scroll down to report, on the right about half way, then click on copyright and trademark and then images and texts copied from your listing.

What happens when you press 'sell this item' or 'sell one like this'? I've seen both those options but never explored. I know that's not the situation for the op, but surely if you press the former, ie selling on something you've bought, then it uses someone else's photos? Isn't that photo theft too? Sorry - bit off track.

Jacksonville14 · 19/09/2014 08:59

no it doesn't use somebody else's photos when you do that.

Jackson is right - it keeps some of the details but not the photos or main description if you use sell similar.

thanks for the tips on reporting the item J
