Something I've noticed about ebay which puzzles me

Straightaway after listing an item for sale, I've noticed that every item gets one or two viewers. Within seconds of listing. And then, some items may never get viewed again, or only get a handful of viewings over the course of the week/month that the listing is live.

Why do all listings get that initial viewing? Is someone checking all new listings as they go live?

Yes, I've noticed that too.Confused

I've noticed this too and I could be wrong here but do your own views count? I mean do you review the ad to make sure it reads ok and could that count as a view??

Dumbledoresgirl · 04/09/2014 23:27

That may go half way to explain it latika, except that, if I view it, I only view it once (and more often than not, I get 2 views immediately) and I view it before it goes live, not after.

It can't just be that, because it happens in your seller view, even if you haven't viewed the item yourself.

Spooky.

Off-topic - DG, I remember years ago us both on the same thread angsting about how to get to grips with ebay selling. That must have been a loooong time ago. [nostalgia]

I always thought it was because some people watch for new listings as they appear (if this is possible?) therefore for a millisecond each listing is the newest on eBay and gets one or two views before it drops off the page - if that makes sense...

Or are there people in eBay HQ who have to check each new listing??

steppemum · 05/09/2014 23:21

new listings are marked as newly listed, and you can select for the order they appear on the page to have newly listed first.

So if, eg like me, you are keeping an eye out for a suitable bike in your area, you go on every few days, and check all the new listings.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 05/09/2014 23:26

Had I even noticed I would have just assumed it was simply because they were coming up on 'newly listed'?!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 08/09/2014 10:49

Don't think it can be newly listed, as items don't show up on ebay as soon as they are listed- it tells you that as you finish, that it may take an hour or two to show up in searches. I'm pretty sure it's your own view as you click finish, it goes to review, then confirm, then is on your item page, you have to press to go back to my ebay.

It only counts your view as 1 - unless you clear your cookies then view again.

PurpleFrog · 08/09/2014 12:51

I had 9 automatic relists yesterday. All have at least one view. I haven't touched them...
