You know how protected eBay buyers are and how Paypal will automatically refund them without quibble grr

What if someone pays you that way and it's not eBay? If e.g. it's a Facebook selling site they've bought off. Do they have the same protection? ( I am saying this as an eBay seller, trying to find more ways to sell)

yes - same protection. But if you sell on Facebook and an item is collected it would have to be cash not paypal anyway.

There are two options for paying by PayPal outside of eBay. There is a friends and family option, for which there are no fees, and no come back either. There is a goods and services option, for which the seller pays a fee (I.e. An amount is taken off the amount they receive from the buyer). This option does give protection. Lots of Facebook sellers ask for the buyer to increase their payment to cover the fees (so seller receives what they asked for).
