Is this crazy bidding?

I'm very new to ebay, just recently started looking. I had my eye on a jacket. Bidding was fair, and then it went from £45 straight to £145! Is this what happens? Why would someone suddenly increase the bid by £100? This can't be usual, is it??

depends what the item is - if it is desirable etc. Impossible to say without seeing it. You can click on the bidders to see if one always bids on this sellers' items and if they are shill bidding.

Thanks for your reply. It was a jacket, nice but I couldn't understand why it went to high so quickly. I can click and see bidding history? Will do for nosiness. It just didn't make economic sense to up the bid by £100 when befor that it was going up in £1 and £2 .

Depends on the make - do they normally sell for that amount?

Someone will have put a maximum bid of over £100 and then a second bidder will have done the same.

I don't know what the jackets sell for, apparently it was £300 new and sold for £145. It was just the very high bid that puzzled me. At a real live auction it doesn't tend to happen like that. I'll watch and learn!

not everyone bids in the closing seconds so it isn't unusual for bidding to that high.
