Hi, I returned an item as it did not fit. The seller has issued the refund and it is showing on Paypal but not on my credit card yet.

I got an email about it from Ebay and I need to respond to the case. It says not to accept until refund is received. Is it ok to go ahead and accept and close the case once it is showing on Paypal or do I need to wait til the money is back on my card?

Thanks

when was the refund made - it should go back to where it was sent from. It shows as refund to card and not a balance in paypal?

What case - a cancellation request to get fees back or a not as described case?

I thought Paypal refunds always stayed on Paypal balance, and didn't go back to cards.

no refunds go back to where they came from - it can take up to 30 days to show on a credit card statement though. Not sure why so long.

Thanks for the replies.

This is part of the message i received.

''Reason for request to cancel the transaction: The seller says that you have returned or will be returning the item for a refund.

Click the 'Respond now' button to accept or decline this cancellation.

If you don't take action by 08-Aug-2014, the seller will be able to cancel the purchase without your consent.''

I paid by credit card but through Paypal IYSWIM so as far as I understand the money will be refunded to the credit card.

I believe the refund is made into your PayPal account and you will need to process a transaction from that account onto your credit card. You could always call PayPal customer service to be sure.

butterflybuttons · 03/08/2014 18:47

that is a cancellation request so the seller can get their fees back If you ignore it the cancellation will go through automatically on 8th Aug. This cancellation has no bearing at all on the refund. If the seller has refunded you correctly via the original payment they cannot recall it.

If your paypal balance is nil then the credit has gone back to your card - but as said above it can take some time to reach your card.

The refund goes into your paypal. It doesn't automatically go back onto the card it was from, you can do that manually by logging into paypal, choosing the withdraw option, and selecting that card/account.

not true - I had a refund last week that went straight back to my card.

Hmmm just realised it might be different for credit cards as opposed to bank accounts. I think credit card payments have to be refunded to original payment source.
