Fees etc

I have a load of stuff to sell but want to make sure I make enough to make it worth the hassle. I have read through the information about fees but just wanted to check here with people from the seller's point of view and to make sure I have considered everything.

The fees I think I need to take into account are:

10% Final Value Fee (do people add anything on to postage to at least cover the postage aspect - although not sure how you would work that out with an auction)

3.4% + 20p Paypal fee

When calculating my profit, I therefore need to deduct from the final transaction value 13.4% (deduct first); my postage costs and 20p.

Does this sound about right?

Just trying to work out what is worth trying to sell and what I will just donate to charity (have had a couple of experiences with really cheeky buyers and would rather than donate if it is only going to make me a few pence).

Thanks :)

Yes, that sounds right for fees unless you pay anything to list but first 20 should be free to list and schedule. I usually do a rough calculation of -15% as it is easier (ebay & pp fees) to get an idea of whats left. The only other expense is packing costs. The only way to factor in covering fees eg the 10% of your postage that ebay take is to start your auction at a slightly higher price or add it to a BIN.

It can be worth offering free P&P especially for lighter items that might go large letter as it gives you an auto 5* for postage on your dashboard. You can then factor the cost in to start price/BIN

As you say, it's not worth the hassle for a few pence, that's why I never start anything at 99p.

Thanks for the tip about postage - I keep getting emails about my seller standard not being high enough due to postage costs which is really annoying as I only ever charge what it actually costs me to send.
