Does this sound suspect?

Trying to sell a vehicle on ebay and been contacted by a few buyers (whose emails all sound very similar).
They want to pay the money to us by PayPal , over the starting bid, without seeing the vehicle. They say they will Arrange a shipper to collect.
The English in their emails is odd and it just seems a bit fishy to me, they haven't bid on the item so am assuming they want to not do the deal actually through ebay.
Anyone experienced anything similar?

Very common scam

Yes, definitely a scam.

There have been variations on this for decades, but the most common one is that they have hijacked a paypal or bank account, transfer money to you to cover the cost of the item plus the cost of shipping, and ask you to pay the shipper at your end. Then once you have dispatched the item, you will find that paypal/the bank cancels the transaction because of fraud, leaving you out of pocket and minus whatever it was you were selling.

Lots of different ways people can defraud you

Yes, I had that on gumtree a couple of times while selling my car, I refused to accept paypal, asked for cash on collection only and reported each occasion - very common scam

As we suspected...thanks folks. Have said in the ad cash on collection so I think we just stick with that and ignore but report the scammers

never take paypal for a vehicle and never for a collected item. Never let anyone arrange their own courier either.

make sure you add them to your blocked bidder list.
