Not sure what feedback to leave

So far I've been lucky enough to leave positive feedback for everything I've bought.

Just received a cardigan and there is a button missing on the sleeve. It's just a detail button, so doesn't affect wearing the item, but it just means I'll have to take the button off on the other sleeve so it matches.

The missing button wasn't mentioned anywhere when selling. The cardigan is nice but I wouldn't have bought it if there was a button missing and there were similar ones I was watching which I probably would have bid on instead.

What should I do? It cost me £10 including delivery so probably not worth the faff of sending back. Should I leave a neutral? Or keep it positive and just message the seller making them aware of the fault? I'm still pretty new to eBay so not quite sure when not to leave a positive feedback.

well you need to message the seller first - then decide what feedback to leave depending on their response. You don't have to leave any feedback btw - it is purely voluntary. I don't think they deserve a positive unless they offer some solution.

Shall I just mention the missing button and leave it at that? See what they say?

Sorry for the hand-holding! So far I've been lucky enough that everything I've bought has been as described.

I've just looked at the photos again. You can see the button on one sleeve but not the other. It's not a close-up, just a big picture of the item, so not sure if they'll argue that it's obvious in the photo.

yes just tell them the button is missing and see what their reply is. They should have mentioned it in the listing

Thanks! I've messaged and left it as that. How long should I wait for a reply before opening a "not as described"
case?

48 hours normally

There is no point opening up a case unless you want to return the item and get a refund.

If you are otherwise happy with the item, I would probably still leave positive feedback but mark down on stars.

Just an update. The seller was really apologetic and she has spare buttons for it so she's going to pop them in the post. She was lovely and it's all resolved!
