Item not as described- do I have to pay return postage?

I'm not sure I want to be out of pocket by £10 to cover the return postage, but the item is covered in scratches and was described as being in 'very good condition'.

The seller offered a £5 refund, but considering that I could purchase the same item for the same price in mint condition, I asked for £10, which I think is fair.

What are my options? Keep the item and leave poor feedback? Or return it and be £10 down? Is it worth reporting to eBay as item not as described?

Am a seasoned ebayer, but have always managed to solve problems with the seller without having to take further action... Not in this case it seems Sad

yes normally - unless ebay give you a prepaid label or a no fault refund. £10 to return - that sounds v expensive. What is the item?

tethersend · 10/05/2014 22:30

It's a booster seat.

The seller has offered a full refund, minus postage costs- but is now claiming the postage was actually £14.

Is there an option to get my money back or am I stuck with the postage cost?

Should I report as item not as described, or will I just have to pay postage even if the dispute goes in my favour?

how much does it weigh? Try My Hermes for a quote. If ebay tell you to return it for a refund then yes you will have to pay for that. But seller has to give you back all of your money which includes the p&p you paid to get it sent out to you. They cannot keep a penny of your original payment.

tethersend · 10/05/2014 23:07

It's the return payment which irks.

I'll still have no booster seat, and be at least £10 down.

Think I'll just leave neg feedback- the first time in ten years I have done so. Can't really see that I've any other option Sad

how much does it weigh though - I think £10 is too much. And if you open a case and state you don't want the cost of return once escalated eBay may pay for you to send it back - worth a try surely?

tethersend · 10/05/2014 23:30

Certainly, if that's a possibility...?

Am RAGING.

I sent a message to the seller explaining that I'd either have to open a case or leave feedback which reflected the experience. I then sent her another saying that I've never left a neg, so would open a case and let ebay sort it out.

She has responded accusing me of feedback extortion!

Grrrr Angry

leave a neg then & get that case opened

tethersend · 11/05/2014 15:36

I've opened a case, but not left a neg.

Didn't realise I could do both... A bit concerned ebay will see it as feedback extortion if I leave a neg?

OP posts:
LavenderGreen14 · 11/05/2014 15:48

no they won't - why would they?

tethersend · 11/05/2014 15:52

Simply because the seller made the allegation...

Thanks for advice BTW

Don't let them bully you is my advice - I think a neg and low stars is in order to warn other buyers if that is the type of seller they are. The seller can write whatever they like - doesn't make them correct though.

tethersend · 11/05/2014 19:20

Well, what a crock of shit.

I have been instructed by eBay to return the item at my own cost.

So I will have no chair and will be out of pocket due to someone else's dishonesty Angry

LavenderGreen14 · 11/05/2014 19:51

how heavy is it and what are the dimensions?

tethersend · 11/05/2014 20:04

It's a handysitt one like this, so pretty heavy.

So, WRT feedback- as I'm sending it back for a refund, does this mean I can't leave any?

OP posts:
LavenderGreen14 · 11/05/2014 20:15

no - you can leave whatever feedback, and stars, that you want to.

LavenderGreen14 · 11/05/2014 20:20

and with My Hermes if it weighs 5-10KG it will cost £7.48 to return tracked.

tethersend · 11/05/2014 20:20

Great.

£7.48? Really? Thanks- will get the scales out Grin

Make sure you leave a neg. How about commenting:

Item described as "very good" but was heavily scratched. Seller was difficult.

tethersend · 12/05/2014 20:20

Thanks nauticant- am trying to formulate a comment which isn't full of expletives Grin
