Arghhhhh!!!!! I am so fed up of being beaten in the last second by people using auction stealer things! It's so annoying and surely it's cheating?! I know its a pointless rant but i just wanted to moan about it Sad

Yes, it is a pointless rant. If you're annoyed by this then sign up to one yourself, they cost literally pennies. Or put in a higher maximum bid. Because at the end of the day you haven't been outbid because of the auction sniper but because the person placing their bid through this has a higher maximum than you.

I don't use software but I do place my max bid in the last 10 seconds.

If an item has no bids and i want it, i'll bid so it's less likely to be withdrawn. Usually items then stay at a fairly low value until the last second of the auction when you find out if you're in the right ball park with your max bid.

I look at completed listings for similar items and work out what i'd be happy to pay based on an average of these items.

the whole point is bidding & outbidding others in the last seconds really. It certainly is not cheating!

I can't get past the feeling of cheating though yellowdinosaur, it just feels wrong somehow! Interesting what you say about highest bid though. This morning I was winning an auction for £10 and had a maximum bid of £20.73. It went in the last second for a pound more than my max. I didn't realise that people sniping had a maximum too (although that does make sense) I thought they were just set to steal by adding a quid on top.

In my head it is :-D I know there is probably no logic in it but it just doesn't seem like a fair win to me!

No they work just the same in terms of the maximum bid. The only thing the sniper software does is put your bid in for you very close to the end which reduces the chance of someone sniping you. But at the end of the day if you put in a higher maximum when you bid 5 days before the end I can only bid through auction sniper if my maximum is more than yours. There is nothing about it that gives you an advantage and it stops the price being driven artificially high a happens when 2 people really want something and get carried away.
