Urgent please! as someone's about to pay me into my bank account

am i completely safe for this? I know i asked before but need to be 100%
They want to send a courier and pay into my bank account
Its my only account, Barclays Current
I should only give my acc number and sort code / name? not the 3 digits on the back? sorry to sound ignorant but i'm only ever paid by paypal or cash if anyone buys or owes me

I know that the normal situation is that you should not allow them to send a courier - as you won't know that they've delivered it safely and they can then claim you didn't send it and ask for a refund...

You giving the account no and sort code isn't dangerous really ( i don't think!)

Sort code, account number, bank name, account name.

I do this on a regular basis and had no problems.

It's fine. As long as you're in the UK they can't do anything with your account number and sort code. Remember Jeremy Clarkson published his in a national newspaper in order to prove this?

yes - I told you before it is perfectly safe - and no, do not give the 3 digit code from the back of your card, nor the long card number across the front of the card.

Sort code and account number and name is all that is needed - it is all the info which is on a cheque - there is no risk.

Didn't someone set up a regular dd out of JC's account to prove him wrong?! To charity I think.. I would still say the risk is pretty small though.

if they ask for a refund… ebay won't refund them as they didn't pay by Paypal. (won't be, I should say)
it's a gramophone and i can see that they have purchased others before, from other sellers
the only reason I'm cautious is because about ten years ago i sent a cheque to an ebay seller . i didnt even put the 3 digits on the back. yet they had enough details to make several K of purchases over the phone (e.g. takeaways, beer tents etc, anywhere that didn't require the 3 digits i.e. weren't bothered) I was on holiday at the time and nearly didn't make it back as my account and overdraft were completely cleared out . I had to borrow money for petrol to get back , absolute nightmare

He did and someone signed him up to donate to a charity by direct debit.

so yes they could possibly set up a direct debit from your account, but even if they did you could quickly sort it out. You won't have provided them with an example of your signature, will you?

bank transfer is perfectly safe - go and ask on the ebay community boards if you are unsure. All sellers there would bite a buyers' hand off for paying this way. Plus no fees either.

no id never give copy of my signature
and it will probably be my parents to sign for the courier
as i use their address for ebay but they are fine with this

got an email earlier Lavender , from eBay saying it's cancelled. returned fees aren't showing up in my account yet though?

Nothing is straightforward!
Need the money but wish i'd never bothered with this albatross of a gramophone
So… on their request, I relisted as a Buy It Now but asked them specifically (as have many times) NOT to pay by Paypal. but to tick it as they are going to send payment or whatever, just anything but Paypal! i emailed them this and i texted them this and it's also in the listing twice!
SO I LIST IT AND ……..THEY STRAIGHT AWAY , PAY BY PAYPAL!!!!

So, i just refunded . That's the second person I've had to refund this week for this item, and the first had left me neg FB, which is still on there…eBay have done sod all about it.
So they (this new person) now have my bank acc details
They told me they would pay me £100 -
they now say they will pay £50 now into my account
and £50 on receipt, into my account
What else can i do? I understand his point ..if he's legit, he's taking a risk too. but i could be set to lose £50 couldn't i..

no of course not, don't be ridiculous. how do you know it will be fine? they are trying to scam you. Do not let their courier collect it if they have only paid half the money. They either pay the full amount or nothing.

Tell them if they don't pay the amount agreed you will sell elsewhere.

This is ringing all sorts of alarm bells. I would cancel the sale and re-list unless you hate this item enough that you would be happy to give it away to a scammer. On no account allow a courier to take the item without you having cleared payment in full.
Was it listed as collection-in-person only? If so, you are probably getting less than you would have in an auction where delivery by courier is an option offered. Get a price for courier delivery and relist with options of either buyer collects for free or courier at cost-price.
NB if he is arranging the courier, he is the customer and you have no redress directly yourself if the courier damages it. This is why the item must be wholly his property paid for in full before the courier touches it.

Sorry OP but if you go through with this, you should expect that you'll get £50, the buyer will receive the item, and then they'll get in touch to complain about its poor state and say £50 is all you're going to get.

If you're desperate for £50 and willing to be scammed as YuccanLiederHorticulture says, then go for it but with low expectations.

generally being paid by BACS is the way to go if buyer wants to send a courier as no possibility og getting refund from ebay as no paypal

however they should always pay all the money up front your update shows that this is not OK though normally it would be fine not because your account details are not safe but because they are not paying in full

He has actually now paid in £70 not £50. which is a bit better.
If i stand to lose £30 it will be crap but way better than losing £50.
I need the money so….
Anyway I'll learn from this , not to accept couriers again
It's being collected tomorrow.. it's lucky i am in as they are meant to be coming in afternoon.. another reason why couriers aren't ideal. If i was working , a pick up would be very hard from a courier

so you are letting him have it at the bargain price of £70? And what about the packaging? He paying for that too.

Tell him if he doesn't pay the extra £30 by tomorrow you won't be letting the couriers collect it. I cannot believe you are just letting him scam you like this and you are grateful for it too??
