Can a buyer get a refund 55 days after buying an item?

I sold a brand new in the unopened box phone on eBay 55 days ago. Buyer paid via paypal and it sold for a lot of money. I sent it next day delivery signed for and the buyer left good feedback.

I've just had a message from them saying the phone has stopped working and they want their money back! Can they do this? I don't have the money to pay them back in any case.

no they can't - 55 days is beyond the limit for ebay/paypal. They may try for a chargeback with their card, but you have online proof of delivery so can show it has been received. Keep hold of that tracking info.
