So, I've listed several similar items on Ebay. Different brands. The higher end brands have been listed with a realistic sale price albeit much lower than RRP and the old stuff that I just want rid of that I've listed at £1.99.

There are similar number of views and watchers for both but only bids for the second one. I was quite hopeful of selling the nicer item but I guess people only bid if starting price is ridiculously low?

no not necessarily - most bid in the last 10 seconds I find. Bidding any earlier is pointless - and shows your hand too early really.

I wouldn't say pointless, I bid early on items because it's part of my system of keeping track of which ones I'm truly keen about wanting to buy. I've tried Snipers & total failure so better for me to rely on Ebay reminders about stuff I have bids on.

There really is no need to bid early, you just risk putting the price up, bung it in your watch list instead. The best way to bid is bid once, as late as possible and at your highest amount.

Sometimes people put in a 99p bid early on so that the seller can't do a BIN sale, I think.

I'm relatively new to eBay, but I have found that most bidding usually takes place in the last hours if not the last hour of the auction. And I have auctioned a variety of things. So don't worry.

a seller can till do a buy it now sale, they can just end to the highest bidder. Or they can cancel the bid and add a buy it now price.

I might also do a bid to stop the seller removing the item for sale if it doesn't look as if they will get what price they really want for the item.

A bid doesn't stop them from removing an item for sale. They can end an auction anytime, unless there are less than 12 hours to go. A bid doesn't make any difference.

Ebay now get arsey with you if you remove an item from sale that already has bids on. I did it a few weeks ago, and got a grumpy warning message that they reserve the right to charge a fvf if you repeatedly close auctions early when items have bids.

Alway schedule auctions to end on a Sunday. Things are more likely to sell as generally speaking people are home.

I used to stick rigidly to the Sunday thing, but I branched out a bit recently and have had good results with things ending around 9pm on other evenings as well.

Make sure the end of the auction doesn't clash with a big football match or other major television event.

I find Mon & Tues at 8.30-9pm much better than Sundays tbh.
