Non paying bidders

When did it become ok to win items at auction and then just not pay? This has happened twice in 2 weeks now. All you can do is open a case but when I've looked at their feedback (all positive) the comments say they do this a lot but sellers can't leave negative feedback.

Do ebay actually do anything about it? And don't even start me on the fees! I'm not selling with them again.

If you have given them adequate time to pay and no joy then just open a case, get your fees back & add them to your blocked list.

You can set in your preferences that you won't accept bids from buyers who have had 2 or more (or 3 or more etc) NPB cases in the past 6 months. Hopefully, if more people do this, and more cases are opened, those time-wasters will realise that they can't buy anything on eBay unless they start playing by the rules.

Thanks both. I have opened cases and will change my preferences. I didn't know I could do the latter. I would never bid and not pay so it's very frustrating.

What annoys me is the total non communication.

If they emailed to apologise and say they had changed their mind or decided they couldn't afford it or whatever then I HONESTLY WOULDNT MIND and would cancel the transaction and relist without a second thought.

But to not pay and then ignore you is just fucking bad mannered.

I have sold on eBay for over 10 years now, and it is only in the past 1.5-2 years that I have had trouble with non paying bidders. Before that, I did have a couple of people who mucked me around with all sorts of excuses, but paid up in the end. Like Tryharder it is the non-communication that really bugs me, especially if there are other bidders I could offer it to - or free listing weekends that are being missed out on!

I've had several NPB recently on 99p items. What is that all about - if you don't want the item, why did you bid on it? If you don't have 99p, then what are you doing on ebay in the first place?

Baffles me. Along with the people who email three days after the auction ends, and ask if they can pay the following week. And then don't. WTF?

It's happening more and more to me but have found buyers are more likely to pay if the bidding ends on the last few days of the month. In other words payday for most people.
