Won an auction over the weekend for a bargain price. I messaged the seller to arrange collection (cash on collection) but received a message from ebay that the seller wants to cancel the sale as apparently the items have been stolen and they have only just found out.

File a non performing seller. That way if it's genuine it won't affect them and if it's bollocks they will eventually get sanctioned by EBay if they do it continually.

When I try and open a case it keeps asking when I made payment, which I obviously haven't done yet. Is there a magic "seller is trying to pull a fast one" button anywhere?

refuse the cancellation if you want to stop them getting their fees back, and leave appropriate fb and stars too.
