Paypal Limit

I have seen an item that I would like to buy, but it is collection only. I live no where near the seller, so emailed her to see if she would send by post.

She replied saying that she would, however her 'Paypal limit' had been reached, so she would need to be paid via bank transfer or cheque. Is this fishy, I have never come across this before? Not sure whether I should chance a bank transfer or cheque.

yes of course it is fishy - you have no buyer protection and no recourse for a refund if it goes wrong.

I reached my PayPal limit once. It's an annual amount say £1000. It's to try and stop money laundering.

The seller might be totally genuine - I was!

But I would be wary on the example you have given.

In my case a relative transferred a large sum of money to me and I sold a few bits and bobs on eBay which meant I had received say £1000 in 12 months. I could either wait until the date had passed and the clock was reset or I could verify my PayPal account which is the simplest option really.

Ask them to verify their pp account maybe ?

Yes, there is a limit, but it is simple to verify the account so that the limit is lifted. This is what she needs to do.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have emailed the seller and told her that I would be uncomfortable purchasing something that was not via Paypal. I will see what response I will get.

(TBH, I don't want to tell the seller to sort out her Paypal account, it is down to her if she wants to sell things or not. A lot of her items are not being sold, I suspect it is because all her items are cash on collection.)

PayPal limit is £1900 per year.
