Buyer has paid but not keen to collect

hi - having some issues with my buyer! Buyer came round to see the item (large) before bidding ended, has paid through paypal but now not sure the measurements stack up, not sure when can collect, how long can we hold it for etc.

If we offer a second chance offer to next bidder does this let the buyer off the hook? What I want to do is see if other bidders will buy the item but if they don't then original buyer needs to see the purchase through.

Anyone had experience of this? Thanks!

Well for starters refund him his money, and message him that collection is cod only. He has x days to collect the item, and then it will be relisted/given to next highest bidder.

The problem of measurements, transport etc are entirely his.

I would send them a cancellation request too so you get your fees back - but yes, you must refund their paypal now. Never, ever take paypal for a collected item, and never let a buyer arrange their own courier.

And don't do a second chance offer until you have cancelled this first transaction. Otherwise 2 buyers only 1 item and a potential mess.

If you're going to see a cancellation request, make sure you first have an exchange of messages via ebay to get the buyer's confirmation that, yes, they do want to cancel.

thanks all for the advice. Perhaps I'm massively naive here but why not paypal for collected item? Is it because they could cancel it later after taking the item?

yep - claim not received and you have no online proof of delivery - same if they arrange their own courier.

Yes, you have no proof they've received and apparently ebay/paypal always find in the buyers favour.
