bid has disappeared

Yesterday one of my items had a bid on but today it hasn't. I haven't seen this before. What has happened? Don't they have to ask me if they can cancel it? It's not a big problem, the item has another week to go but I haven't come across this before and wondered if anyone can explain it.

On Ebay, you can withdraw a bid under a number of circumstances.

Usually, it's because you entered the wrong amount (but that excuse seems implausible if you fail then to enter a bid with the right amount).

Sometimes, it's because the seller changes the item description and you now don't fancy the item as much as before.

Or it can be that you've tried to contact the seller about something but s/he isn't replying.

Or it can be for some other reason.

As the seller, you can complain to Ebay about the withdrawal of the bid.

Thanks. Well there were no messages from anyone, I didn't change anything so obviously the bidder just decided to withdraw the bid. Personally if I did that I would contact the seller and explain but hey ho. I don't really suppose it will do any good complaining to ebay although if it were nearer the end of the auction I would be more annoyed.

there is no point complaining - a buyer can legitimately cancel a bid if they wish.

Yes, and I agree they should be able to but I haven't had a bid just disappear with no contact before. I don't mind. I would rather that than hassle later when they don't want item.

you normally get an automatic email saying a bid has been cancelled
