Can't get hold of seller

Clicked on 'Buy now' for an exercise bike/cross trainer. Paid straightaway via PayPal and funds appear to have been taken. It's not too clear who's supposed to contact whom, but we have now emailed them three times and phoned twice (voicemail) with no reply.

The item is for collection only and we're happy to go and get it asap. It's a commercial seller with what looks like lots of experience and 100% positive feedback.

What should we do now? Newish to this lark, but have bought and sold a few bits and pieces over the years.

that just means the seller put that delivery would be by then on the auction - doesn't mean anything except a case cannot be opened with ebay before then - but it can with paypal.

clam · 26/12/2013 14:09

The thing is, though, that I still want the product. IF I could be assured that I could get it on the 29th, I'd be prepared to wait, but if it's not going to happen, then I'll bail out now and source it elsewhere.

Sandy why do you reckon their feedback isn't great? From what I could see (with my inexperienced eye) it looked like it was 100% and 5* for things like communication etc... Or have I missed something?

they have 2 neutrals and 1 neg

they will want cash anyway as it states that on the listing, so you need a refund even if you do still get the item. It is collection only so they are not going to deliver it.

clam · 26/12/2013 14:22

I know they're not going to deliver it - fully prepared to go and collect it. Am assuming that all the references to delivery are just ebay default things.
But aren't there 300 or so good feedbacks? Or am I making that up?

but their listing clearly states cash on collection doesn't it. No you aren't making up the good feedbacks, but there are neutrals and a neg too!

Lotta comments in the FB about slow delivery.
They have fairly few feedbacks in last yr as sellers (less than 25 in last 9 months) implies they aren't selling much. I'm a dinky private seller and I have about 4x more FB in last 9 months (about 60% of my buyers don't leave FB, too).
They may not be taking their business very seriously, hence not checking messages.

As buyer you have more protection with Paypal payment, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I have a strong feeling this is a drop shipper; you order from them but they buy from someone else for much cheaper and have it delivered to you.

If you can source same item for similar price elsewhere just as quickly, I think I would plan to do that. But first file item not received and get that case closed before you order elsewhere.

lljkk · 26/12/2013 15:00

Oh wait, sorry, I am confused because of your delivery on 29 Jan note and you think you can't file INR as a result.
Don't leave FB until you have your money back or the item. Don't even think about FBback, to be honest, just focus on item or money.

Phoning Ebay Customer Service might help you a lot, I think.

SandyDilbert · 26/12/2013 15:02

it is collection only though so not a drop shipper - and the item is ready assembled which makes me think it is used or ex demo. There are plenty of sellers who sell the same type of item - I would get your money back via paypal and shop elsewhere.

clam · 26/12/2013 15:04

OK, thank you very much for your help. I seem to remember having to wait a while before a case could be closed (nearly got scammed by a "Nigerian" buyer when selling a phone last year) and re-listing the item. That's why I'd prefer this one to come good if possible, as I reckon it's the quickest way I'm going to be getting on that bike and getting fit!

It's annoying though. Xmas Angry

It's very annoying that they won't reply to you. It's possible they are on holiday and can't arrange for you to collect the item yet but even a short response would have been helpful. They had the item up on Buy It Now so should have been checking for a sale every now and then.

Feedback can look a bit misleading sometimes (not intentionally as it's ebay who score the feedback). 300+ and 100% feedback obviously looks great but if you look at the more detailed feedback you can see they've not sold much in the last year and got 1 negative and 2 neutral. Not so great. Even with 100% it's worth checking for a neutral as that doesn't take the % down.

Open a case as soon as you can and if still no response look elsewhere.

SandyDilbert · 26/12/2013 16:04

a case as a buyer is different to one as a seller though.

you need to open a case with paypal if you are doing it now, you then can escalate within a few hours - you will need to wait about a week for your refund though, otherwise you will have to wait until 29 Jan to open a case with ebay. If you buy from another seller they will prob deliver it on Monday - I would rather shop elsewhere if I were you tbh.

clam · 26/12/2013 16:19

Hmm, yes, I think you're probably right.
