Sold an item the other day, very popular with bidders and went for a good price. The winners had contacted me several times beforehand to try and persuade me to sell away from the auction, so they were obviously keen. The item is large so it's collection only and I stated cash on collection. After the auction finished I left it a few hours and when I hadn't heard anything I emailed and said that they could collect evenings or on the weekend and would they let me know their preferred time. They came back saying they'd prefer early afternoon on Saturday - today, I agreed and said anytime after 1 and I'd make sure I was home. I gave them our address and my mobile number just in case.
Well I made sure either DH or I was in all afternoon and no one turned up, which tbh was a real pain as there are tons of things I need to get done. I emailed them at 4 to check that they were still coming today - no response. So I'm starting to get a bad feeling about the sale, so I emailed them at 8 asking for them to get back to me and let me know what's happening and if they still want the item or not. So far I haven't had any response.
So what do I now? The item was very popular and went for a good price probably because it is in excellent condition and an ideal Christmas present. Do I realist it? Or offer it to the next lowest bidder? How long should I give the original purchaser? Do I have to tell eBay?
