"Would you be willing to donate the John Lewis two piece outfit? I live in Canada. I am not working and I had an outfit similar to this and I lost a lot of my items while donating a bunch of toys, clothes, furniture, etc.. Please let me know. It would mean so much. I would appreciate any boys or girls nb clothes. Thank-you SO MUCH in advance!"

The item didn't sell on Sunday, then I get this today!!

HA! Cheeky bugger, aren't they?

YesAnastasia · 03/12/2013 14:04

I know. I'm not working either

But I feel a bit bad because what if she's genuine...

FannyFifer · 03/12/2013 14:07

I admire their brass neck.
Just message back NO!

HECTheHeraldAngelsSing · 03/12/2013 14:15

What if she's not?

If you are willing to send stuff to someone you have never met, because they have sent you a begging email, then you have to be ok doing it knowing that it is possible that they do this for a living and are happily scamming people, laughing at the suckers.

If you're happy to take the chance that you are being scammed, just in case someone really really needs that john lewis two piece outfit and anything else they can blag off you - then that's up to you.

Out of interest - would you be forking out the postage too?

No, of course I'm not going to do it. Being desperate for warm clothes for your child is one thing, being desperate for a particular John Lewis Two Piece is a bit far fetched. She could've requested the bundle of fleece sleepsuits for a cold child & I might've thought about it IYSWIM.

OP posts:
SandyDilbert · 03/12/2013 17:03

I bet she has sent the same message out hundreds of times - what a cheek indeed.

BrokenFairylights · 03/12/2013 20:29

Glad you're not sending it OP, what a cheek. I bet there's a thriving secondhand market for quality uk stuff in Canada - I've got relatives in Australia and they'd bite your hand off for uk stuff especially John Lewis because the stuff in their shops is cheap crap you can't buy it over there. Wink

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2013 20:37

You should say yes if she will pay postage

Then not send it

I hate scammers

HECTheHeraldAngelsSing · 04/12/2013 13:20

Grin bloody glad to hear it. I sounded like you were going to be a softhearted bugger. Grin

ZombieMonkeyButler · 04/12/2013 13:25

What a cheek! Shock

It's like the local "free to collector" FB page. It was set up to help people who were in desperate need of things & couldn't afford to buy them. The idea being if someone had something they didn't need they would post it on the site.

It is now mainly full of posts such as "Wanted. Sofa bed. Dark blue or black only. Decent make. Will need to deliver".

For free? WTAF!

GhostsInSnow · 05/12/2013 14:08

certainly! Please Paypal £X to cover postage fees, along with £X which I can donate to my favourite charity too and I'll send it

BroomstickRider · 05/12/2013 22:10

That's even cheekier than the one I had asking if I could reduce the postage (on a really nice item the buyer got for 99p) because their child had autism. I said no because I can't afford to post things for free but somehow felt a bit guilty.

Merguez · 08/12/2013 21:31

If you feel bad about it OP why don't you just donate the unsold items to a charity shop, then you know someone deserving will be benefiting from them.

HyvaPaiva · 04/01/2014 14:25

Her deliberate use of the word 'donate' set off your charitable reflex, OP. Donate in this case just meant 'give' Grin. She said donate to get a warm-hearted reaction from you. So cheeky!

ParsleyTheLioness · 04/01/2014 14:36

Postage to Canada is expensive. Also, I am not computing I lost a lot of items whilst donating a bunch of toys. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
