Buyer claiming item is damaged

I recently sold an item on eBay that was used but in good condition. The buyer is claiming the zip is broken and asking to return it. The zip was fine when I wrapped it. What do I do? Ive already said they can return it, do I then have to refund the item and two way postage? I can't help but be suspicious the item will never return but the buyer will claim to of sent it. What do I do then?

Many thanks

Check the eBay guidelines, but I would aske them to send it back by a traceable method - how much was the bag sold for? If it is a decent amount, it's worth you paying the couple of quid to the buyer for them to send it back. Don't know what situation would be if they did return it and it is not faulty - after all they entered into a contract to buy it.

First of all suggest that you will need them to return it by a traceable method (have a look on Royal Mail website to see how much it costs and tell them what service to use so they don't pay for some ridiculously expensive one) - I once said this to a buyer and never heard from them again, they were obviously trying it on!

you have to return the original p&p - whether you pay the return postage on top is up to you. Do you think the buyer could have used it and broken the zip so they can return.

Don't refund until you get the item back anyway. If they claim to have sent it you will not refund, so don't worry about that.

my sister is having this problem too - she shipped a pair of once-worn jeans in perfect condition (i know, because i was sitting there with her when she wrapped them and i almost pinched them!) and the buyer is claiming there is a bleach stain on one of the knees.

she has written back asking her to recheck the item, but i think it's more likely the jeans don't fit (seller has in the interim been looking at another pair of jeans she's selling - by the same brand but a size up) and the buyer is just trying to wriggle out of keeping them. does my sis have to refund or can she escalate?
