I have rather foolishly bought a mobile phone from a website, without doing any research first.

It turns out that the .co.uk website is actually a China-based company so the phone which has been sent isn't likely to be what I was expecting.

Also, it should have arrived by now and I am concerned that I have just lost a lot of money and that I'm going to need to find an alternative Christmas present for DS.

The tracking number they emailed me doesn't exist. There is no option to call or email them, only an online chat which doesn't work.

I've just logged onto PP and it gives to options when raising a dispute...1) item not received 2) item significantly not as described. At the moment, I would go with option 1 but if it does turn up, would I then be able to choose option 2? Or can I only open 1 dispute?

I'm so cross with myself for not checking properly Sad

if it arrives just don't sign for it. How long ago did you buy it?

Open the paypal dispute, and escalate immediately (tomorrow) - you will get a full refund then.

I would open the dispute without delay.

We purchased a phone from China when in china which looked like a genuine Nokia but alas it wasn't. And we're defo not technophobes. The quality of fakes are pretty amazing.

Thanks, both.

I've just checked through my emails and it's not actually that long since I placed the order...feels much longer.

I ordered on the 17th, dispatched on 21st. Tracking still not working.

I am still concerned that the phone is not going to have uk software loaded on it or have a valid warranty.

so - log into paypal and get the dispute opened now. If it arrives just don't sign for it - and buy from a shop or reputable uk ebay seller.

Ok, thanks. I'll do it now Smile

You can open a case in option one and then change to option two when it arrives :)
