Missing parcel - claiming from Royal Mail

I posted a parcel on the 2nd November by 2nd class mail. Should have arrived a week ago, but nothing yet.

I can't make a claim til friday, but the buyer wants a refund.

Fair enough, but what happens if I refund and it turns up? She says she'd pay, but there's no guarantee of that.

Also, the total she paid for 3 items won was £21; we added on a 4th for an extra £6, then postage was £3. Total of £30.

RM says maximum compensation of £20; not clear whether postage is refunded as well. That would leave me out of pocket if I refunded her the total £30. She obviously wants all her money back as she hasn't got anything.

What's the best way of dealing with this?

You will just have to bear the loss - should have sent with adequate insurance sadly. Nothing you can do if you have no proof, the buyer could have received it last week and may not be truthful, but you will never know. In future try MyHermes - £4.20 for a parcel up to 2kg in weight and online proof of delivery. No need to pay extra for the signature with them as it still shows as delivered.
