Item hasn't sold but the bidder (currently winning) is asking whether i will
Accept bank transfer
Post to an address he can't put on PayPal

Bit suspicious as he has no feedback

yes it is perfectly safe - bank transfer no risk of a chargeback whatsoever. And no paypal fees only. Ignore people who say it isn't safe - ask on ebay community boards, sellers there would bite your hand off for a bank transfer sale.

the money transfer thing IS safe, but the fraud may come later, when he claims it hasn't arrived and demands a refund from ebay, who will quite happily deduct it from YOUR paypal account in a second.

keep all messaging about it on the ebay system and DO NOT go to private email because as far as ebay is concerned, it didn't happen.

here or here or here - compared to paypal there is no risk at all. Send the item courier/special delivery with online proof of delivery and add that to the transaction too.

and sorry Martin you are completely wrong - they cannot file a claim with ebay and get a refund via paypal - that will never happen. They cannot get any refund via ebay for a bank transfer payment, they would have to take a seller to court for a refund, so if seller has proof of delivery they are safe.
