WWYD - postage charges/feedback etc

Bought something on Ebay 2 weeks ago. Estimated delivery date was last Saturday. Postage was £5.50 and dispatch time was 1-2 days so I assumed that meant it'd be sent 1st class and would be with me quickly.

By Tues this week it still hadn't arrived or been marked as dispatched so sent the seller a message asking if it had been sent yet - this opened a case which I hadn't realised it would do. They replied the next day to say "item now posted" - no apology or anything.

Its just turned up and was sent 2nd class which cost them £2.60 so less than half of what I paid. I'm pissed off as £5.50 was already a bit steep but would have been okay with me if posted 1st class and quickly. But to take so long to post, only post after a case was opened, not offer any explanation or apology, and then send 2nd class even though they'd charged enough postage to send it 1st class signed for....

Id leave a negative for that seller and I would say why in the feedback - item only posted 2 weeks later after ebay case opened.

I would ask them for partial refund of the postage and would also leave low stars and a neg.

In the auction it should say exactly which service you're getting, no? It should say 1st or 2nd class, I think?

Is it true that if you mention opening a case in your feedback the seller can get it removed ? Whenever I see the feedback removed by ebay it speaks volumes about the buyer or seller and I would avoid.

Lljkk - I am not the only person who said leave a neg - am I not entitled to an opinion the same as other people here? You seem to spend a lot of time criticising my posts!

I would ask for partial refund (ebay are taking 10% of postage these days I believe)

Depending on response I would either leave no feedback or neutral/neg is not forthcoming

On the listing, next to the postage quote is a link that says 'see details' where the seller puts how the item is being sent, 2nd class economy post /1st class rec delivery etc.

If they aren't will to give you a partial refund I would leave low stars and neutral saying 'sent two wks late, charged £5.50 for postage that cost £2.60'

This new trend for inflated postage fees is putting me right off ebay.

I think you're the only one who said they'd demand refund AND would neg AND would hit their stars. If you know Ebay well you know that hitting their stars is the way to hurt them most of all.

Yes I think you're pretty unforgiving, LB. Your call, of course, there's one line of thought that all Ebayers should be as unforgiving & punishing as you are and somehow that would make Ebay better. I don't go for it, but you're entitled to share that view as much as I am to disagree with it.

I would leave a neg and low stars if they didn't refund, and quite frankly I would presume from the op the seller won't refund a penny which is why I stated I would leave neg and low stars after asking for partial refund. If they refunded and were polite then no I wouldn't leave a neg - but I suspect a seller who profits in such a way will not refund anything and will be rude and send a shirty reply. So yep - call me unforgiving, I was just pre-empting tbh because I can presume this seller won't be nice and friendly and willingly refund the difference - if they do refund and are nice then I am more than happy to be wrong.

I would leave positive if I was happy with item but say 'nice item but slow delivery and overinflated postage charge'. Or something like that

One thing to remember with p&p charges though is to factor in the cost if packaging!!! I sell a lot in eBay and if I know something is going to cost £2.60 for postage then I will charge £3.00. 40p just about covers the tissue paper and colourful plastics postage bags that I use (I buy in bulk so get them cheaper) but if you have a seller that has to buy for example a Jiffy bag and bubble wrap from tesco then that will cost a good few quid! It really annoys be when people have given me neg feedback because I charged a postage fee above the price on the stamp!!!
The p&p is clearly stated on the listing so if it seems higher than what everyone else is charging then simply don't bid. By budding you are agreeing to terms and conditions set out by the seller. The lack of communication is not good though and I would expect an apology at least. Neutral / or positive feedback with a comment would be appropriate in my opinion

twiddle you say if it cost 2.60 you would charge £3 which is perfectly reasoanble however you do not charge 5.50 when it costs 2,60 which is otally unreasonable

ebay now expects max dispatch time of 3 working days AFTER PAYMENT unless unusual circumstances

the order details page would clarify whether second or 1st class

so if 2 weeks ago ie paid on friday 13th , 3 working days is following wednesday, 3-5 working days for 2nd class is Monday23rd-wednesday25th
so even allwoing for maximum margins parcel is late and overcharged

either a) you get refund in which case you feedback with +ve and a comment " nice item but a bit slow but seller sorted it"

b) no refund in which case negative " item ok but very slow delivery with excessive charge not recommended and low stars for everything except as described
