Seller dispatching "after cleared payment" - paypal query

I don't know if anyone can help with this.

I want to buy an item from the States - an old movie poster.The seller listing says they will dispatch after 'receiving cleared payment', but how would that operate with paypal's new way of doing things i.e. not debiting money from my account until the item is marked dispatched?

How does paypal operate - does it issue the payment to the seller straight away after I click 'pay now' but not debit it from my account until later? Or does the seller not receive payment until it actually leaves my account, which with the recent changes to how paypal operates can be up to weeks after initially clicking 'pay now'. Confused!!

Do you mean you've accepted Paypal's "Pay After Delivery" scheme?

If so, you've agreed almost that they will offer you credit for the item. You click buy, but Paypal offer the money. Then exactly 14 days later, the money is debited from your bank account - not your PayPal balance. If the money is not in your bank account, they'll take it from your secondary card.

The seller won't be told that PayPal paid instead of you, so it'll be dispatched immediately, as it would be if you'd used your PayPal balance.

maybe the seller means after the money has been transferred to their bank from paypal, which is instant more or less anyway so means nothing really.

Caja, don't remember actively accepting it with Paypal; it just started doing it that way one day....is it not like that for everyone? Anyway, your post clears my quandry up as from what you say the seller is still paid straight away. Thank you. Thanks Lily also.

So is this paypal 'pay after delivery' not a universal thing then?

My last payments from my bank to PayPal were also "Pay after Delivery". I don't remember signing up to it. I panicked, as I thought the seller wasn't going to get paid immediately. Then I read the info properly!
