Collecting item - PayPal and postage?

I've bought something today which was listed as collection only, and I won for £3.01. Despite being listed as collection only it has a postage cost of £6.19 shown, so if I try to pay by PayPal it tries to pay all £9.20. I have contacted the seller who says he has no idea why postage is shown - he seems to know as little about eBay as me Blush

So, what do I do? I actually don't mind if there's no way round it but to pay the whole amount. The seller said to pay by PayPal and he will refund the postage. But could I just give him cash on collection? I'm worried he could then claim I haven't paid him?

Sorry to ask such a stupid question. But embarrassed that I don't really understand how this whole thing works!

Never pay by paypal if you are collecting. Cash on collection always.

he needs to worry more that you collect and claim not received

just pay cash when you collect he then marks as paid and that is that he pays ebauy fees but not paypal fees you do not pay postage

Pay by cash. I've heard a few strange stories about Ebay postage on collection items since the new fee regime imposted.
