I'm sure the answer is probably no.

I listed a large item on ebay, the RM quote was £10. Managed to manipulate the box to get it down to Hermes size, JUST. Weighed everything and listed the item with the Hermes weight.

DH packaged it up last night. Done a quick weigh of it on the Wii Fit - which I don't think is particularly accurate - and it's in the next price category for Hermes now.

It only sold for £1, so I'll be out of pocket.

I have to send it, don't I Sad

people don't, I've had people withdraw items after i'd won them as they didn't get as much as they wanted for it, nevermind about the postage. its not good form though. I've had people send the item anyway and when I've realised they've been left out of pocket I have offered to pay the extra postage costs. Not sure everyone does though.

You can but it is frowned on and they can take it up with Ebay and give you bad feedback. I have miscalculated the postage and lost out before but I was embarrassed so sent it anyway and took the loss.
Someone did it to me recently though - it is annoying but not the end of the world.

What are the chances of Hermes weighing the parcel?

Could I get away with sending it at the original price?

Hmm

The item weighed 3kg, the box less than 1kg, now it's packed up, only with tape no stuffing it's 8.5kg Confused

I think you need to weigh it on some normal scales, the Wii prob isn't that accurate.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 27/08/2013 13:00

Take it too the post office now it's packaged and ask them to weigh it for you. (I usually make something up like "I don't need to post today but need to know postage cost")

Ha.

Hermes courier has literally JUST dropped something off.
Asked him, he said no way is that 5kg of packaging & he'll take it now.
He's just doing two drop offs across the street whilst I print the label off.

Thanks for letting me rant / stress at the keyboard / screen and you're good advice Thanks
