Seller asking for private sale via PayPal (multiple items)

I contacted a seller who had an item I'd been looking out for and in dialogue with them it turns out they have a whole lot of items on my 'shopping list' (very feasible as it is some educational materials). We have agreed a price for the whole lot including courier costs.

They have now sent me an email asking if I would be happy to do a private sale via PayPal.

If I do this using my american Express credit card linked to my PayPal account will I still be protected?

Many Thanks

Yes as long as you mark it as payment for goods you get Paypal protection. Opening a paypal dispute is pretty easy to do.
If anything goes wrong & you want to claim compensation ,it's slightly more hassle than buying thru Ebay; oh, and it's probably against Ebay rules to sell this way. But people do it sometimes anyway (price reductions both sides).

Great thanks. I guess the seller wants to save on fees given the original item they listed is less than 10% of the total invoice we have agreed for all items (most were never listed)
