A silly question from a new ebayer

Hello. I sold something yesterday which was 'pick up only' and she came and paid cash and all was fine.

I didn't know how to "end" ie "remove" the item so in a panic I quickly deleted it. Now she can't leave me feedback, which is fine but I've listed more 'pick up only' things. What do you do when you've sold it It's 'Buy It Now' so not like an auction that has a proper ending, iykwim.

Also, how does ebay take money for Buy it Now sales ? Is it just a listing price ?

Thank you :)

I think you just need to mark as "payment received" on the item drop down box, same as if someone sent a cheque. Then feedback can be left as usual.

You would get the final value fee from a BIN or auction invoiced by ebay as usual but no paypal fees involved in a cash on collection. The fees will be collected from the bank account or credit card linked to your ebay account. Hope that helps :)

what do you mean deleted it? If you just ticked the box and archived the item the buyer can still leave feedback and so can you if you wish.

blueish · 25/08/2013 17:21

Thanks and sorry for the delay. I've just looked at my history and it says that the item was "unsold". I'm not sure what box I should have ticked. I've never done it before.

Thanks

so you didn't sell via ebay, you sold off ebay? The buyer just contacted you direct to buy it and didn't buy via ebay at all?

queenebay · 25/08/2013 17:46

sounds like you didnt complete though ebay-youve just ended the lisitng

Cloudkitten · 25/08/2013 18:03

In future, when a buyer pays cash, tick the "mark as payment received". That's all you have to do. Don't bother over the one that's gone.

Lily I don't think the seller sold off Ebay, someone bid on a collection item only. The OP has then deleted the sale altogether instead of just marking payment as being received.

LilyBossom · 25/08/2013 18:31

so why is it showing as unsold then if it isn't an off ebay sale?

Cloudkitten · 25/08/2013 18:40

Good point Lily, you are right, if the buyer had bid as normal then the item would be saying Sold, not Unsold no matter how the payment was made.

OP, your buyer must have contacted you to arrange the collection without actually bidding? Did your item have zero bids? If so there isn't any feedback to leave/receive because as far as Ebay is concerned your item didn't sell.

You do need to be cautious of making sales outside of Ebay. If an item hasn't sold then it should be relisted and interested buyers can put a bid in then.

Cloudkitten · 25/08/2013 18:43

PS Buy it Now should still be showing as Sold, it does have an auction end, the ending is when the buyer clicks on Buy it Now. The item will then show as Sold.

If a buyer contacts you in future over the item then they actually need to Buy it Now, by clicking the button. I wouldn't get into doing sales whereby if people contact you, you make the sale then delete the item. Best to be above board Smile

Thank you so much LilyBossom and Cloudkitten. I've no intention of being anything but above board :) I'll make sure that buyers press Buy It Now in future. I just panicked and wasn't sure what to to. The thrill of the sale went to my head, even though it was only £8 !

Thanks again
