Has anybody bought a sofa from ebay?

I desperately need a new sofa, mine is on its last legs
I would love a corner sofa but they're so expensive in all the usual haunts such as dfs, argos etc
I've found a seller on ebay who sells a few different types at practically half the price but im a bit wary about quality etc, and if I did purchase a sofa what rights would I have if there was something wrong with it?

The sellers feedback is good, only one negative so that's a good sign

I've bought 2nd hand sofas. My current one is fab and I am really pleased with it.

The one linked to seems to cost a lot postage wise.

Ive not bought a sofa, but have bought other items of furniture on ebay and had no problems.
If it was faulty or not as described then I believe you'd be protected through ebay itself.

I would check thoroughly before courier leaves, if it isn't nice you can refuse delivery and then be entitled to a full refund, not just the item cost. If you filed a not as described dispute you would have to return at your own expense before you got a refund.

well delivery makes it £442.50 altogether, which is quite reasonable for that amount of seating?

you can collect; & you can return, but then you lose the delivery charge if paid. it sounds pretty fair.

My only experience is buying 2nd hand armchairs, which I drove to collect, so not the same!

if you return for a refund you won't lose your delivery charge - but you will have to pay for the return with online tracking.

LilyBossom, the listing says:

'PLEASE NOTE
The delivery charge covers our delivery/collection expenses so if the items are returned or do not fit then unfortunately the delivery charge cannot be refunded.'

which I interpret as losing the delivery charge!

but ebay would give a full refund wouldn't they?? Obvs buyer would have to pay for the return but the seller can't keep the outward delivery fee.

I sold a chair which worked really well as I was accurate in description, the buyer arranged own courier who paid on cash, we mutually exchanged signed collection notes. All good.

I then bought an oak sideboard from a business on ebay. Good feedback, slow delivery were the only comments. Oh gosh. It was appalling quality, very shabbily built, the courier company were a nightmare to deal with. In the end they refunded me in full and I have kept the sideboard. Would I do it again? Probably not.
