adding vat onto selling price??

looking for a log splitter and notice one that states that 20% vat will be added onto the final selling price which bumps the price up quite a bit. Are sellers allowed to do this?

Probably, intrugued!

lljkk · 09/08/2013 14:26

ps: I wonder if they are trying to save 10% FVF on the VAT.

Pudden · 09/08/2013 15:13

just to clarify; they aren't a business and the item is third hand

so are you going to report their auction?

lljkk · 09/08/2013 16:33

Blimey, you do come across as harsh, LilyB.

As far as I am aware, and I am a VAT registered business seller on Ebay, you have to include the VAT as part of the original price.
There is a box to fill in on the selling page which states the VAT amount. My VAT number is also part of my business details submitted to Ebay.
What this seller is doing is wrong, they should have already declared the amount if any was due.
I do agree with Lily that the seller should be reported because this is how Ebay is kept safe and reliable for it's users.

Is the seller registered for VAT and have they got a VAT registration number If they aren't, they can't charge VAT

AnnoyingOrange · 09/08/2013 23:35

Vat info from HMRC

Adding VAT is never allowed on Ebay, regardles of who the seller is.
