Notice: Ebay raising its fees for sellers

If I have any of this wrong, please correct me. Thought I'd pass on the word.

Ebay are going to charge 10% (FVF) on postage as well as on the sale price. This is already in place for business sellers and will come into effect on 4 Sept. for private ebay.co.uk sellers, too. (I presume that means auctions that end on 4 Sep 2013 and thereafter, but could mean paid on 4 sep & after, not clear to me).

One of the side effects is that, for private sellers, the only reason to list P+P separately is if you want to offer different postage options (express etc.). Otherwise you may as well include the P+P price in the start price and guarantee yourself 5* on the postage DSR.

Better finish my clear out then!
Postage is starting to make eBay expensive anyway and it's getting too much hassle to compare each postage rate each time I list.

pixiegumboot · 01/08/2013 20:52

Oh no I've got loads to sell. presume you mean make p&p free but put higher price on? won't you just end up paying it anyway through higher fvf? I guess 99p items won't be free to list then if you include the p&p. looks like a case of adding the 10% to your p&p.....

lljkk · 01/08/2013 21:14

That's true, good point, keeping postage separate makes sense for 99p listings, too. (Still learning the new rules of thumb myself!)

It doesn't apply until 4 Sept, so I guess try to sell what you can before then.
I get impression this came in with almost no notice & business sellers are hoping made about it. At least private sellers are getting some warning.

By accident I read some of Ebay.com discussion forums today and OMG they have so many more rules & policies to follow. I just pray ebay.co.uk doesn't go same way.

Hang on... hang on...

isnt this just for business sellers ? if you are a private seller then this change wont affect you.

lljkk · 02/08/2013 11:24

Sellers discussion boards on ebay are saying it will apply to private sellers from 4 September. Would love to find out that's wrong, do please research & come back & tell us.

The general announcements page on ebay website has 30th july stating business sellers news and the 10% levy is announced there.

What a stupid idea.

There is nothing about private sellers yet.

lljkk · 02/08/2013 13:28

this doesn't look so good.

I opt out of Ebay emails so didn't get that msg.

Eek, from that thread, some debate about, if an item is collected in person, whether Ebay will still charge the FVF on the (non-existant) postage rate. So could be worthwhile to add a fee for collection (think sellers are still allowed to do this) that is equal to 10% of the postal charge.

Offering postage reductions for multiple purchases is going to be interesting, too.

Hmm... just looked at the FAQ and its says that even private sellers will be affected.

You dont need to have received the message lljkk, just go into my ebay, messages and then on left hand side bar see all ebay announcements.

I just sell outgrown clothes children and mine - so I wont be selling (or buying as a consequence) for much longer if this comes off.

lljkk · 02/08/2013 14:00

Still not seeing anything about FVF now applied to postage even in announcements. Just as well I lurk on the discussion boards. do you have a link to that FAQ?

Scratch that, I found it here.

Although I haven't found anything to confirm 4 September as start date for private sellers.

I think I sold stuff on Ebay for yrs without understanding the fee structure. Bet most private sellers are like that.

okay, the discussion boards are also saying that from early September private sellers will have a set 30p charge for all auctions listings starting at £1 and above. Great if you want to sell something for £100, bad if £1 sale.

I just wonder if part of the plan is to have fewer or no FLW for private sellers? Anyone wish to contribute to rumours?

lljkk
that link to the news item says it is for business sellers.

I can't see anything that relates to an increase for private sellers. It would make me think twice about selling though. Already the higher postage cost has had a detrimental effect.

HormonalHousewife · 03/08/2013 20:14

Yes janan that's the announcement - but if you scroll down to the frequently asked questions it states this also applies to private sellers.

Ridiculous.

JamNan · 03/08/2013 20:45

HH, I see it now. That is really sneaky.

Frequently asked questions

Will private sellers need to pay fees on postage and packaging?
Yes, this change will affect all sellers on eBay.co.uk.

pixiegumboot · 03/08/2013 20:51

flw?

Footface · 03/08/2013 21:29

Do eBay rear want to get rid if its private sellers and become amazon instead.
