Seller sent the wrong item?

I won an auction for a baby cover from eBay and it sold for a relatively low amount.

I paid straightaway.

Two days later, I received a package but it was the wrong item that was delivered. I got a bumper instead of the cover. I contacted the seller and heard back a couple of days later to say they've refunded me the winning bid amount as they sent my item to someone else in error and I could keep the bumper as a gesture of goodwill. I already have the very same bumper that I was 'gifted' due to their error.

This obviously pissed me off as I would have appreciated some sort of gesture whereby they attempted to track the cover down for me. The refunded amount won't come close to buying the cover (which has been discontinued BTW so isn't easy to track down).

Should I leave negative feedback? I'm in two minds as I've not had the best experience but at the same time they refunded my payment and asked my to keep the bumper.

I should also add that the seller is a well established baby store in London who sells old stock on eBay.

Thanks.

I think wait a week before leaving f/back. I kind of get your irritation but then I feel for seller because I sell a lot on Ebay & will doubtless one day make the same mistake.

LilyBossom · 28/07/2013 20:29

did they refund the P&P too?

Auntybella · 28/07/2013 20:45

iijkk, the email they replied to had no apology or anything. My issue isn't that they made a mistake, it's more to due with the fact that they haven't taken any steps to rectify the situation. There would surely be someone out there who has received a baby cover they didn't order?

Just said 'we have refunded your bid as there has been a mix up'.

As I previously said they are a very well known London based retailer so I was able to find their number online. I rang and spoke to someone and she nonchalantly said ' I wasn't in on Monday so someone else sent the items and messed it up'.

I feel this may be a one off as they've only received positive feedback and a neutral a few months ago.

LilyBlossom, no my postage wasn't refunded. Postage was combined as I paid for two items. One was delivered fine. Should I ask for half of the combined postage to be refunded?

Thanks!!

Yes I would say so - otherwise you have paid postage for an item which is useless. Why can't they send you a replacement?

lljkk · 28/07/2013 20:48

Must be out of stock. Ok, I understand better, they should have the sense to grovel.

Auntybella · 28/07/2013 20:58

I think I will send an email asking for half of the combined postage to be refunded. Hopefully they give it back. If they do I think I will just not leave feedback instead of leaving negative feedback...

lljkk, yes she said they were out of stock, her exact words were 'Well I've spent two hours of my day going through stock in the stockroom looking for the cover'. I did think that was abit rude, she was only doing her job, not doing me a favour!

why would you not leave neg feedback, they didn't give you your item plus kept your money? If that doesn't warrant a neg and low stars then what does?

Auntybella · 28/07/2013 21:11

They refunded my money AND said I could keep the bumper that was sent in error, albeit a bumper that is absolutely useless to me..

I'm not really a constant eBay user so don't know all the ins and outs of he things work. Should I still leave neg feedback?

OP posts:
LilyBossom · 28/07/2013 21:28

yes but what is point of keeping the item which is useless, is hardly a favour is it

I would ask for p&p refund and if they don't give it back then would leave a neg and low stars, if you want them to count.

Auntybella · 28/07/2013 21:33

That's a fair point, I'm going to email to ask for postage refund and see how it goes.

Thanks!

I would ask them if they would contact the buyer who got the wrong item and see if she wants to do a swap. Then if you got in touch with the other buyer (assuming that's how it happened), and other buyer wanted to swap, then I'd contact original seller and ask that they reimburse both of you for postage for the swap. I'd only give a neg after they refused to do that.

Auntybella · 29/07/2013 17:53

I've already asked them to contact the buyer. The lady I spoke to said she's got no idea who it was posted to as it was over 30 items shipped to that day. That's when she said 'I've spent two hours of my life in the stockroom looking for another bumper'
