He's still sending me messages from 2am. Does the system take a while to recognise the block?

I think all the blocked thing does is stop them bidding. They can still see your items and message you, but I might be wrong

adding someone to your blocked bidder list does not stop them contacting you - but each message can be reported to ebay.
