Bought cash on collection item, seller asking to cancel transaction

I've won and paid cash on collection for an item. Seller just texted me that he wants to send a link cancelling transaction to avoid ebay fees. Obviously this is dodgy, but I did get a great bargain and I don't begrudge him. But how does this reflect on me as buyer? Won't he need to provide a reason for cancelled transaction where the cancellation is due to buyer either not paying or changing mind?

Just to clarify, item had been picked up and paid for a while ago.

no don't ignore, you have to refuse the cancellation as he is clearly trying to con ebay. If you ignore the cancellation it will close and seller will get their fvf refunded, so you have to actually refuse it - then leave appropriate feedback too, and report him to ebay.

Conning Ebay doesn't bother me in the slightest, BUT if he's the sort to do that I wouldn't think much of whether the item will be fit for purpose. Ebay will catch him sooner or later.

the item is actually immaculate as if new and i feel like i got an incredibly great bargain as it's probably less than 10% of the original price.

that's why i don't begrudge him if he choses to be dishonest and not want to pay fees (never mind his breathtakingly decorated multi-million pound house.)

no it won't - but by agreeing to cancel the transaction you are agreeing with him breaking the rules of ebay aren't you? - it isn't like he can't afford the fees is it, why should he get away with not paying them when the rest of us pay them without argument?

This is obviously how he can afford a multi-million pound house then!

well maybe not as extreme as that, but I wouldn't agree to it as I think it is unfair and wrong of him - bargain price makes no odds tbh.

Won't reflect on you, OP, although if you did it a lot I suppose there's a 0.01% chance Ebay might detect something odd going on.
