Have you come across this? Payment received but item not collected?

I've had payment via Paypal, but after contacting the buyer 3 times, I've had not a word from him about when he wants to collect. It's 2 weeks now since he bought. A week since he paid. I've given a week's deadline, after which time I've said I'll take the item to the tip!

I've checked with ebay and they said that was okay and sounded fair.

But why would a buyer do this? The item cost £130, so not like it's peanuts.

Anyone know what this buyer could be up to? I'm a bit of an ebay novice so wondered if this is a common pattern?

well you need to refund the paypal payment, cash on collection or nothing otherwise you can be scammed. If they don't turn up to collect with cash then you will need to send a cancellation to get your fees back.

But no not normal to pay and not get the item.

I want to keep the money though Smile Don't see why I should go to the bother of relisting. I've got what I want! If he doesn't collect, that's his problem as far as I can see.... unless there's some angle I don't know about?

I sold some garden furniture, stools, on ebay five years ago now. They still haven't collected. I moved about two years after they purchased. I'm moving again now and have decided that its not coming with me.

They emailed on and off for about six months. Not quite as strange as no contact though.

I wouldn't refund.

LilyBossom · 15/07/2013 21:34

you want to keep the money and the goods!!?/ Seriously?

Well that is theft - and if the buyer collects and pays by paypal they can file not received, and ebay will refund the money and you will be left with nothing - no item or money.

so cash on collection or nothing.

ElectricSheep · 15/07/2013 22:02

mis it's really weird isn't it? Why on earth would you pay for something and then never collect it! Nowt so strange as folk!

No, *Lilybossom, they have paid but failed to contact me at all to arrange to collect. They have to collect as the item is furniture and too big to post.

I don't want to keep the money and item - I want them to collect the item! It's actually a damn nuisance having to store it, it takes up quite a bit of space and I've already got a new one (which is why I was selling). You say I'll need to get cash but they've already paid by paypal. Is there some reason the paypal payment won't work?

because they can claim not received and get a refund - so whether they collect or not you need to refund them now and ask them to bring cash.

feetlkeblocksofice · 15/07/2013 22:17

Maybe they're on holiday or have had a family emergency/accident. I would just refund.

ElectricSheep · 15/07/2013 22:43

But on the original listing there was only a collection option - no post. It was clearly the buyer's responsibility to collect.

Feel this has been going on since the 1st July - must be a long holiday/emergency (with an interval to organise the paypal payment 1 week in!)

Just refund the money with a message stating why.

Electric If they get in contact and decide to collect you have to refund and accept cash, they can then say they've never received the item and eBay will just refund them. It's a well known scam so please be careful

thismousebites · 16/07/2013 09:46

Yes, their head could have dropped onto the pay now buttonWink

sarahtigh · 17/07/2013 09:23

you should NEVER EVER take paypal for collection only so refund them now, regardless of whether they can be bothered to collect or not

if they don't collect you have to refund if they do collect you have to refund and insist on cash

send 1 message saying they must make contact within 48 hours and collect by say Sunday evening, if not it will be relisted, however as they have paid once you will not be able to file a non payment dispute but you can send a request for cancellation saying please cancel his transaction as you appear not to want item having not arranged collection be polite in case they refuse and you lose fees

ignore ebay if you take to tip in 3 weeks that is fine but they will get their money back from paypal a they have 45 days to file a not received dispute
