Best postal service for clothing (eg: one blouse or cardie) and how much would you charge?

Hi,
I have some clothes to sell on ebay. Will probably sell things individually. Items aren't too heavy. I don't want to charge extortionate postage costs and I don't want to get caught out either. I have been caught out by Royal Mail new postage charges (sending bulky biscuits!) recently. Which service do you use for sending clothes?
Any advice really appreciated as want to upload tonight.

It really depends on the dimensions of the package for Royal Mail. I've sent children's clothes and some of them (with one summery type thing in a packet) have got through as a large letter, but most have been a small parcel which I think costs 2.60to post. I sent a bulkier kids jumper and sent that Hermes as it was to big for Royal Mail small parcel rate. I think that cost £3. I ordered a size guide from on the Royal Mail web site, to help me with these decisions. It's a right pain, trying to find the cheapest postage option that is also convenient for me to post.

MyHermes charge £3.30, they collect plus you have online proof of delivery - cheaper than RM - no brainer really.

If selling for under £10, Royal mail, and only if you can pack it kind of flat (within their weird dimensions). It turns into a juggling game for other options, although at the moment MyHermes undercuts the others well for packages under 2kg, not too bulky.

I am just waiting for MyH to suddenly increase their prices, too.

Royal mail small packet is under 45x35x8cm or a 15cm cube, most clothes except jeans and coats and big hoodie type things can be folded to fit those dimensions just make sure you squezze air out of mailing bag

royal mail is £2.60 for second class under 1kg so that is the cheapest but it is £3.70 signed for so then myhermes is cheaper but royal mail gives £20 coverage with standard post so signed for not really necessary

go to ebay mailing bags work out at 5-10p each depending on size, don't get padded envelopes for clothes not worth it, and don't wrap them in newspaper

The trouble with squeezing air out of the mailing bag is that it gets back in! I've bought some 9"x12" ziplok bags and mailing bags, what I do is put the item in the ziplok bag, roll it up to squeeze the air out, seal the zip fastener then put it in the mailing bag. This enables most single T-shirts and blouses to go as large letter. Don't buy cheap grey mailing bags - they make the contents smell smoky!

Bigger items which are still less than 45x35x8cm (12x16 bag) I send 2nd class Royal Mail for £2.60. It is the 8cm depth that is the killer because over that its £5.20. How did they guess that 99% of shoes when packaged are 8.3cm deep?!

Bigger than that, or over 1kg, I use MyHermes but take it to the parcel shop.
