Buyer of designer item not happy - did I do the right thing?

In March, I sold a Gucci belt on ebay. It is verifiable through a serial number and is certainly genuine. The buyer has contacted me without opening a case to say it is not and she wants her money back. What she probably means is that it is too small, as I was a size 6-8 when I bought it. The measurements were given in the listing.

She contacted me without opening a case. I have said that I'm sure we can be arrange return, but could she please open a case through ebay. I don't want her to claim to send it second class normal delivery and then have it not arrive.

Was that the right thing to do?

It makes no difference really - with or without a case being opened she can return a different item, or an empty packet - I would tell her to return for a refund and once you have checked your security markings you will refund her.

If she did return it second class and claimed it didn't arrive ebay wouldn't refund her, she would have to claim for the lost item herself anyway.

Thanks Fergoose. Can I ask what you mean by security markings?

if you tell the buyer you have security marked your item, it may stop them returning something different and still getting their refund

Thanks.
