£8 for postage...?

I purchased two items from the same seller - a vest and a lightweight dress. I only bought the second as it was 99p and I assumed she would combine postage. She won't combine the postage and is saying it will cost her £8 to post these items (it won't, it will cost £2.50 for the postage, and packaging should be that much).

I asked to to cancel the sale if she won't reduce the postage but she's opened a case with eBay.

What can I do? She's blatantly profiting from the postage. Never had this before, usually sellers can't do enough, this has really put me off.

I don't know. To me £8 sounds ridiculous and greedy. I thought private sellers were not meant to charge excess postage. At the most I think she should charge £5. I know the postage has gone up. I don't think you can post stuff for £2.20 anymore. Last parcel I sent cost £2.60 - nothing to do with ebay.

Hold your ground. You have done nothing wrong. have an online chat with ebay. can be useful.

Chat to ebay. However you did buy two separate items knowing the postage of each. I am not sure if the seller has to combine. As a seller I always have done, and I think any decent seller would and should. Have you emailed to ask?

A seller doesn't have to combine postage but they will need to send in two separate packages if they don't.

blatant fee avoidance - even with Hermes it would only cost £3.30.

I thought buyers were allowed to change their minds & cancel transactions before payment as long as they ask within first few days after auction end. I think if you document that you have tried to negotiate or request a cancellation (Ebay can see the msgs you sent each other) then you shouldn't get a strike against you.

as miranda says combining postage is not compulsory but must be two parcels ask if she will consider my hermes at 3.30 for 1kg and obviously something for packing so say 3,70-£4 absolute max

i could not use myhermes shop as nearest 17 miles away and collectplus 8 miles but I drive past it most days

though i use myhermes when they collect from me as i live in a place where i can just leave my parcels safely in porch but that is not true for most

some do not use couriers as not in during day and no place to leave parcels in which case collectplus drop at shop which starts at £4 plus £1 for signature

Just don't pay. I hear a lot of crap about bidding on eBay being a binding transaction and you have to go through with it. Ebay won't do anything to you if you don't pay.

yes but if you get 3 non paying strikes by seller(s) opening non payment case you can be banned from ebay

though I agree £8 is a rip off
