I clearly put cash on collection on two items and both buyers have paid via PayPal!

can you refund them through paypal and message them to say to pay on collection

SconeInSixtySeconds · 22/04/2013 10:14

I can't find the payments on PayPal, it says transaction number incorrect when I follow the link through.

Why does it matter? You've got the money?

Jins · 22/04/2013 10:15

You have to accept PayPal under ebays t&cs. They've paid by PayPal to try to stop you backing out of the sale

mybelovedmonster · 22/04/2013 10:18

You don't have to accept PayPal - you're right, you need to refund and insist on cash on collection. Otherwise they could say they never collected the item and get a refund, as obviously you won't have any proof of delivery.

ilovepowerhoop · 22/04/2013 10:23

www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/bizui/SendRefund-outside - does this help?

SconeInSixtySeconds · 22/04/2013 10:25

Jins I have a feedback score of over 250 positive, though i am sad that a table and 8 chairs went for 70 quid I won't back out.

As my beloved says it is because they are collection only.

Yes sorry you do have to offer PayPal not necessarily accept it.

Feedback score or not people do send payments through in case you try to back out. Have you emailed them to explain that you want to avoid PayPal fees?

juneybean · 22/04/2013 10:43

It's not about trying to avoid PayPal fees Hmm

mybelovedmonster · 22/04/2013 10:47

Yes... Hmm

Cash on collection is standard practice and protects the seller.

DorisIsWaiting · 22/04/2013 10:57

I would refund and say cash on collection when arranging the collection time.

it's too risky otherwise (dsis just got biten by this)

fergoose · 22/04/2013 11:13

you must refund their paypal - never ever accept anything but cash for collected items

lynniep · 22/04/2013 11:19

This has happened to me a few times. Its infuriating when people dont read the listing. However ebay automatically sends them an invoice with a 'pay now' button and many people just go ahead and use it.

I now put the information right at the top of a listing in bold red on the off chance they pay attention.

In the past I have contacted them to tell them I clearly stated cash on collection, and would like to refund their payment. One on occasion the woman was so lovely that I let it slide.

Jins · 22/04/2013 11:22

It's not all about avoiding PayPal fees no. But it's a bit nicer to email someone to say you'd rather avoid PayPal fees than to give the impression you think they are going to rip them off.

mybelovedmonster · 22/04/2013 12:22
Confused
phantomhairpuller · 22/04/2013 12:26

If you didn't want them to sell for such a low price you should have put a reserve on them. Or started the bidding at X amount (to ensure they didnt sell for anything below what you were expecting) Confused

fergoose · 22/04/2013 12:30

is nothing to do with paypal fees - it is to avoid a seller being scammed & losing the item & the money

SconeInSixtySeconds · 22/04/2013 12:37

Hindsight is a wonderful thing :) I had checked completed listings and other sets the same went for about 300 quid. It's the way it goes I suppose.

Thanks everyone, I have spoken to one of the buyers and it is fine, just waiting to hear from the other.

ilovepowerhoop thanks especially. It all got a bit complicated as dh had attached his PayPal account to my eBay Confused which meant I couldn't even see the payment in!
