How would you ask to resolve this?

I ordered a custom item for a buggy online, but it's a bit skew (sides are about 1-2 inches different in length), otherwise lovely fabric. I spent ages trying to fit it before realising why all the buttons/ elastic wouldn't do up. It wasn't cheap and it's a real shame, I otherwise like it but I resent paying so much on an item that isn't fit for purpose, I could alter a little myself to improve it but it isn't the tight neat fit advertised.
Am I stuck with keep or return? I want to be reasonable, it's a one off so not replaceable.
Is there a middle ground that's reasonable, or do I put up or ask for a return? What's the opinion? I'm a little annoyed because surely they would have noticed the flaw themselves as pictured on a buggy. I'm quite torn between keeping as it's pretty and I may improve the fit and returning it as I'll be bugged by the one sided baggy fit and the fact I can't fix one point. of it to the buggy.

not as described, I would want a full refund or a replacement which actually fits, anything else is not acceptable surely?

yeah, it just seems a shame to loose it I guess as I like the fabric and I could adjust myself. I guess it's a return for refund.
I have opened a case saying this, seller not responded (only just over 24 hours). I sent the seller a photo of the mis-matched sides lay down together to show I wasn't a chancer. They are a reasonable size business doing this.

Is it one of those home made things that people make to fit high-end buggies?

If so then email to say that the item is badly made, sides irregular so that the thing does not fit. Its not as described and not fit for purpose. Ask for a replacement (free with free p&P of course) and if you do not get that then put in a dispute item not as described.

Don't even think of trying to adjust it yourself, it should have arrived fit for use!

yep, I have a second hand 'fancy' buggy and the original bit was broken so I'd got it cheap. I bought this as it was (a little) cheaper than buying the branded item to replace.

I doubt I'd get a replacement as they are unlikely to have the same fabric etc. I've opened the dispute but no response as yet.

Hope you get it sorted. Its really cheeky that someone is trading off the well known brand then selling substandsrd goods.

there is no need to worry - just escalate it when you can then ebay will step in and tell you what to do

I'm getting complete silence from the seller, despite being a UK business, so it's looking like it'll go further.
In the event of no response what is likely as the outcome?

Give them a few more days, if you haven't heard by say Wednesday, contact them again.

Once escalated ebay will refund you once you have proved item is returned, make sure you send with signature, Collect+ or My Hermes may be cheaper than royal mail - it will say in the case itself when you can escalate. Then you can leave appropriate feedback and stars.
